Toyota Motor Corp.’s Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, Jun Nagata, has resigned from the company, according to a Nov. 27 press release, leaving other executives at the global automaker to take on those roles.
Before his resignation, Nagata had a long career at Toyota, first joining the company in 1990, the same year he graduated.
He held several sales roles at the company before being promoted to the position of chief operating officer in January 2021 following his appointment as chief communications officer. In January 2022, he also became head of the foreign and public affairs group. Nagata left both roles to become chief risk officer and chief compliance officer in April 2024, before resigning months later.
Two current Toyota executives will assume Nagata’s responsibilities starting January 1, 2025:
- Takanori Azumawill assume the role of Chief Risk Officer in addition to his current duties. Azuma is the current HR Manager of the company and responsible for the general administration and HR group. Since April 2023, he has also been an external member of the board of directors of Woven by Toyota, Toyota’s subsidiary for mobility technologies.
- Yoji Matsuyamawill assume the role of Chief Compliance Officer in addition to his current responsibilities. Matsuyama is currently Toyota’s deputy general manager for the general administration and human resources group and senior general manager for the company’s sustainability management division. Having first joined in 1992, he also held roles in the company’s purchasing group and on external boards and counsel.
The moves by the C-suite executives were announced as part of a wave of changes to Toyota’s senior management appointments, which also included the appointment of new officials for the company’s manufacturing group and Woven by Toyota.
